Letter from the Program Director
Dear prospective student,
Thank you for your interest in the Physical Therapist Assistant program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle!
The exciting field of physical therapy is a dynamic allied health profession dedicated to helping people of all ages, from infancy to the elderly. Physical therapy promotes health, prevents injury, reduces pain, and restores function, mobility, or a competitive edge! According to the Maine Department of Labor, the state employment outlook for physical therapist assistants puts it among the top 20 fastest growing occupations in Maine and according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook is growing "much faster than average" with the overall demand expected to grow 35% through 2018.
The Physical Therapist Assistant program is a 2-year degree program consisting of 5 semesters of coursework including 3 student clinical experiences in various physical therapy settings. Our charter class is currently completing technical coursework and is expected to graduate in 2013.
The primary objective of our program is to graduate skilled clinicians who will go on to take a national certification exam and become licensed to work under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist as a state-licensed physical therapist assistant
As a candidate for accreditation, we are working closely with the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) to become accredited by November 2013. We are looking for academically strong students who are excited at the prospect of a challenging and rewarding career in physical therapy!
I am delighted to answer any questions you may have or help you in any way I can. Feel free to contact me or drop by my office in Wieden Hall, room 104, if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Christopher Rolon PT, MS, ATC

Effective July 31, 2012 the University of Maine at Presque Isle PTA program has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
