UMPI approved to offer first-ever Master’s degree
With approval from its accreditor, the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), the University of Maine at Presque Isle can now offer its very first Master’s degree program—a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL). This fall will mark the first time in the institution’s 117-year history that a graduate program will be offered.
UMPI named a 2020 Great College to Work For and spotlighted on Honor Roll
For the first time ever, a public university in Maine—the University of Maine at Presque Isle—has been named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the 2020 survey by The Great Colleges to Work For® program. As an even more prestigious honor, in its first recognition by the program, UMPI has achieved distinction as a 2020 Honor Roll Institution, achieving high scores in 11 out of 12 categories.
UMPI receives top rankings from U.S. News and World Report
Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned four top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the 30 Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 20 Top Public Schools in the North, the top 20 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt, and the top 50 Regional Colleges in the North for Social Mobility.
UMPI Homecoming 2020 goes virtual
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present its first-ever virtual Homecoming festivities from Sept. 14 to 20, featuring activities such as a virtual trivia night, roundtable discussions, and a virtual version of the Snowy Owl Marketplace.
University announces 2020 graduates
One hundred and seventy-three students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle during the 2019-2020 academic year. On Saturday, May 9, during the University’s 111th Commencement and first-ever virtual Commencement ceremony, President Rice conferred degrees upon the graduating students.
UMPI releases Dean’s List for Spring 2020

Research team garners USDA Specialty Crops Block grant
A team of University of Maine at Presque Isle faculty members and students have begun work in the Zillman Family Greenhouse on a research project funded by a $12,333 USDA Specialty Crops Block Grant. The project aims to support Maine potato growers by enhancing the competitiveness of potato rotation crops through cropping system innovations.
