Gentile Hall offers Week of Wellness Sept. 25-27

The staff at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s health and wellness facility are celebrating a Week of Wellness between Sept. 25 and 27, providing campus and community members of all ages with fun and free activities focused on healthy living. The event is sponsored in part by Cary Medical Center, and is free and open to the public. Free prizes and snacks will be provided throughout the three-day event.

The week’s activities are being led by Keli Marston, UMPI’s Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, and Amanda Baker, UMPI’s Recreation Programs Coordinator. Marston explained that the Gentile Hall staff wanted to do a health and activity-focused event at the beginning of the academic year to celebrate fresh starts and well-being.

The fun begins on Wednesday, Sept 25, as organizers invite the public to try out a free nutrition session with Lisa Fishman, a nutrition education professional at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. Fishman will deliver a nutritional segment on dieting, calories, and portion control. The session will be held from Noon-2 p.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, Marston will offer a taste of some of the fitness programs offered at Gentile Hall, including 40 minutes of Step N Tone, 40 minutes of Fit Camp, and 30 minutes of Stability Ball exercises. The session will be held from Noon-2 p.m.

The very next day, the community will get to participate in a free Fitness Assessment. The session will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. Marston will provide fitness assessments that will consist of body fat, circumference, flexibility, strength, and blood pressure.

Marston and Baker encourage everyone to stop by and check out the facility, especially anyone who has never visited before.

“We’re really excited about our Week of Wellness, and we encourage everyone to come and observe everything our health and wellness facility has to offer for your fitness needs!” Marston said.
