The troupe is made up of three of Maine’s most popular entertaining variety artists, actors, musicians and Downeast humorists – Randy Judkins, Barney Martin, and Steve Underwood. The trio will present a comedy variety show of original songs and parodies, hilarious Maine characters, ‘wicked-good’ juggling, and hysterical sketches.
On stage, they’ll bring to life their most eccentric “Mainiac” characters, Sunny Day, Emmitt Pickitt and Russell Spurwink, as they sing about some of the best kept secrets of Maine in three part harmony. They’ll weave melodic tunes about what it’s like living way up north in Caribou, Maine, delving into the minds of three curious clams, coping with black fly season, launching a singing telegrams business, or revealing a wish-list of items Mainers shouldn’t live without.
Judkins, Martin and Underwood joined forces in 2001 to form the Maine Hysterical Society and follow a very specific creed: “to preserve, promote and provoke laughter.” Recently back from their appearance with Lucie Arnaz at Birdland, the legendary jazz club in New York City, the Maine Hysterical Society has been dubbed “The BEST Variety Comedy Act in Maine.”
As an added bonus, Judkins will spend two days prior to the performance working with area students. He will perform his inspirational presentation “Laughing in the Face of Change” with SAD 1 teachers, work with an SAD 1 play production class, and spend time with SAD 1’s competition play actors. He also will provide a workshop for UMPI’s student theater group, the University Players. The Aroostook Partners in the Arts is sponsoring his work with the SAD 1 students.
