UMPI Business student earns NESRHM scholarship

A Business student at the University of Maine at Presque Isle recently was presented a scholarship by an affiliate of the world’s largest professional association devoted to human resource management. 

Bria Ryder, a sophomore Business Major with a General Management concentration, recently received the Deborah Kierstead and Milton Bailey Memorial Scholarship from the Northeast Society for Human Resource Management, which is affiliated with the Society of Human Resource Management. NESHRM established the scholarship in honor of two of their members who exemplified leadership and community service. Officials annually present the scholarship to two students.

The scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in a business-related program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Northern Maine Community College, the University of Maine at Fort Kent, or Husson University in Presque Isle. Scholarship applicants must have a career goal in business, and exhibit traits of leadership and service to the school and community.

“Receiving this $500 scholarship means a lot to me because any financial support you can get as a college student is a great help,” Ryder, who hails from Vassalboro, Maine, said. “Also it meant a lot to me to have Professor Patric Edward help me out with this scholarship. Going to a small school like UMPI, I feel that the professors really care and get to know you personally.”

The Northeast Society of Human Resources Management seeks to be the recognized regional resource on human resources-related issues by encouraging adherence to ethical conduct and high professional standards, promoting personal and professional development, providing a forum for networking and idea exchange, offering education, resources and services to the region, coordinating legislative advocacy on local, state and national HR issues, and maintaining financial viability as a professional group.
