University Players presents Broadway Revue Sept. 18

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s University Players theater club is proud to present its first production of the Fall 2015 semester—a Broadway Revue. This one-night-only performance will be presented Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium at Wieden Hall. Admission is free though $5 suggested donations will be accepted at the door.

“If you’re a Broadway fan or enjoy listening to Broadway songs, this is the perfect event for you,” University Players club president Darci Faye said. “We plan for this to be the first of many Broadway revues. Each revue is going to have a theme, and our very first theme for our very first Broadway Revue is ‘Songs from Broadway Revivals over the last 50 years’ to celebrate the revival of the drama club at UMPI.”

This Revue will feature songs from the hit Broadway musicals: Grease, The Sound of Music, Annie, Chicago, Oliver, Into the Woods, Les Miserables, Peter Pan, Company, Side Show, Pippin, Once Upon A Mattress, West Side Story and Gypsy.

“There certainly is something here for everyone to enjoy, from classic Broadway songs to some lesser known ones,” Faye said. “The songs range from upbeat toe tappers to ballads that will tug at your heartstrings. And the local talent that is going to be in this show is sure to give you the chills!”

The talent ranges from seasoned UMPI singers to County favorites. UMPI students participating are: Hazen Dauphinee, Rebecca Bowers, Sara Hall, Valentina Annunziata, and Anna Scheidler. Participants from the County are: Renee LaPointe (Van Buren), Rachel Ellis (Presque Isle), Jaidyn Blake (Mapleton), Noelle Bailey (Mars Hill), Chloe Wheeler (Mars Hill), Emily Boucher (Madawaska), Delaney McKeen (Mars Hill), Danica Haskell (Presque Isle), Alexis Gustin (Caribou), and Hannah Forsman (Caribou).

The University Players was re-formed last year and works to provide students—and, in some cases, community thespians as well—with a way to express themselves through various theatre forms, such as: plays, musicals, and festivals. Later this semester, the theater club plans to present a UMPI student-penned play performed by New York-based actors, Infinitely Yours, on Oct. 9-10, and an Off-Broadway hit comedy, Beyond Therapy, on Nov. 7-8.

Faye said the Players hope to welcome many campus and community members to its first Broadway Revue.
