Assistant Professor of Physical Education

Tenure Track Position in Exercise Physiology

The Physical Education program within the College of Education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle invites application for a nine-month, tenure-track position in Exercise Physiology to begin September 2015. We are seeking faculty who are attracted to teaching exercise science courses with undergraduate research interests. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes in Exercise Physiology to students in Physical Education Teaching, Athletic Training and Fitness & Wellness. Undergraduate research opportunities are available using the state of the art exercise physiology lab which includes VACUMED – Mini-CPX gas analysis system, VACUMED – custom treadmill model 13610 (8’x 15’), Monark stationary bicycles – 824E and 828E, Lactate monitors – Lactate Pro and video camera for movement analysis. Additional teaching opportunities exist such as Motor Learning, Biomechanics Measurement and Evaluation.

Qualifications: A Doctorate in Exercise Physiology is preferred (ABD considered). Preference will be given to individuals who can teach aquatic and/or winter activities and/or other activity classes. Evidence of the use of service learning, proficiency-based assessments or other high impact practices of interest.

Assistant Professor of STEM

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking an Assistant Professor to teach mathematics and science methods courses (Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary) in the College of Education using standards-based curriculum. This is a tenure track, academic year position beginning September 1, 2015 with an emphasis in mathematics. Responsibilities include 12 contact hours of teaching per semester, advising, and service to the department, university and community. Principle delivery modality would be on-site but could include online, blended and/or synchronous video conferencing. Minimum starting salary is $47,435, with final salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications are a terminal degree/ABD in Education with recent prior teaching (K-12). Experience teaching elementary math is essential. The successful candidate for the position should have an understanding of contemporary theories, models, assessment, and best practices associated with math/science education and be able to use technology for effective student learning. Knowledge of Common Core shifts and proficiency-based teaching and learning are required.
