Assist/Assoc Professor of Criminal Justice

A strong, growing program at a small school: the best of both worlds. The Criminal Justice Program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to start August 2015. (The successful candidate may start January 2015 if preferred.)

Responsibilities: The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The expectations of a tenure track position are: instruction (live, online and hybrid), advising (both academic and career guidance), scholarship, and professional service. Typical starting salary range is $50,000 to $55,000 with final rank and salary to commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in Criminal Justice or a related discipline. Those who also have a JD will be particularly attractive but a JD alone is not sufficient for this position. ABD’s will be considered with a plan for degree completion within a year of hire. The area of specialization is open but the department is interested in candidates who can teach foundation courses including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, Policing, Criminal Justice Computing, and Juvenile Justice. Candidates who have real world experience working in the criminal justice system are especially encouraged to apply. Evidence of the use of service learning, proficiency-based assessments or other engaged pedagogies is also of interest; as is experience with online instruction.
