Every fall and spring, the Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MECDHH) holds a Family Fun Day where families in Aroostook County can gather and meet each other in a central location. The fun day provides an opportunity for children who are hard of hearing or deaf to meet and play and for their parents to meet, network and share their stories with each other. Their first meeting was in 2011 and UMPI has been a supporter of many of these events and provides a place for the families to play, eat lunch together, and enjoy each other’s company. There were 31 people attending this event, which included two American Sign Language interpreters to ensure access for children and parents, and four staff members from MECDHH.
