New Ventures Maine (formerly Maine Centers for Women, Work, and Community) will offer two workshops. One is Business Basics, which will meet on June 14, 21, and 28, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. This workshop covers the business plan, marketing, and cash planning and is suitable for those thinking about or who are in the start-up phase of a new business. Pre-registration is required. The next workshop is Venturing Forth: Business Planning for Entrepreneurs, which meets on Tuesdays, Sept. 6 – Dec. 6, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be an orientation session on Sept. 6 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. This is a 12-week, one day a week, business planning course. The following topics are covered in depth: the customer, competition, marketing, record keeping, taxes, financing, and legal considerations. At the end of the class, you will have a completed business plan. There are also three follow-up sessions. There is no fee for this course and class size is limited to 15. An application, attendance at the orientation session, and an interview are required and the application deadline is Aug. 26.
