College of Arts and Sciences

At the center of any good college are outstanding Arts and Sciences.

In the College of Arts and Sciences, we prepare students to be educators, lawyers, doctors, counselors, nurses, writers, artists, and health care professionals.

We don't just offer you a set of skills for your next profession, but rather the knowledge and strategies you will need for your future, whatever that might entail.

So you will succeed in the most difficult—as well as the best of—economic times.

So you will be a community leader rather than follower.

So you will help others to make informed choices, rather than relying upon what others might do for you.

So you will make a better community, nation, and global environment for us all.

Message from the Chair of the College of Arts and Sciences

Students/Projects:

Some of our students have helped to bring local history to life by working with Dr. Richard Graves, a local historian, to produce a book that covered 150 years of Presque Isle history.

Biology students Alison Kiefer and Darren Pelletier have conducted research at sites such as the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Led by the Northern Maine Museum of Science, volunteers from the campus and community teamed up to make one of the largest scale models of the Solar System a reality.

Students in John DeFelice's Special Topics in Ancient History class presented a production of the Greek comedy Lysistrata.

For the past eight years, our English majors have attended the National Undergraduate Literature Conference, held in Ogden, Utah. The conference has given them the chance to present their work in a professional conference setting and learn from some of the most influential writers in contemporary literature.
