College of Education

Welcome to the web site of the College of Education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The College has a long and proud history of preparing knowledgeable, caring, and competent teachers for work in classrooms with diverse students. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to student success.

Reginald NnazorThe College offers programs leading to a B.S. degree in Elementary Education (K-8), Secondary Education (7-12), and Physical Education (K-12). A Bachelor of Arts in Art Education program (K-12) is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. Each program consists of a General Education Curriculum, a Subject Area major, a sequence of Professional Education courses, and Student Teaching and Field Experience. The programs are undergirded by beliefs and values we hold about teaching and teacher preparation. These beliefs and values are articulated in our Conceptual Framework. Our programs are approved by the Maine Department of Education, and we prepare our teacher candidates to meet Maine Initial Teacher Standards and Maine Learning Results. Candidates hone their teaching skills through the Student Teaching and Field Experience.

There is a Post-baccalaureate route to each of the programs that is designed for individuals who hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university but seek initial teacher certification. Post-baccalaureate teacher candidates range from individuals who have no experience in teaching to those who have experience as teacher aides, tutors, or paraprofessionals.

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Education, I invite you to check the links on our web page, email us, call us, or come to our campus for a tour of our College and academic support services.
