Applying for Graduation: All Students Must Apply
Students who plan to complete degree requirements in December 2012 or May 2013 need to complete an Application for Graduation and submit it to the Office of Student Records, 235 Preble Hall by November 30, 2012. The applications can be found in the Office of Student Records or can be downloaded in .pdf format and printed. Applications can be hand-delivered to the Office of Student Records, mailed (Office of Student Records, 181 Main Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769) or faxed (207-768-9458).
Why Do I Need to Apply for Graduation?
Completing an Application for Graduation allows the following to happen:
- Academic Record to be reviewed by the Office of Student Records to ensure completion of degree requirements
- Degree Status Report to be forwarded to Academic Advisors for review and signatures
- Information regarding Commencement, Caps, Gowns and Announcements to be mailed in late March
- Name to be included in the Commencement Program
- Diploma to be ordered
- Name to be included on lists of graduating seniors being considered for awards or other recognition
- Commencement list to be approved by Faculty Assembly in April
Requirements for Graduation
Students in all baccalaureate degree programs must complete a minimum of 120 or 128 credits depending on their Program (Degree) and Plan (Major). All students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in order to graduate. Students in some Plans (majors) have specific GPA requirements in their major as well.
Commencement and Degrees
Students who submit their Application for Graduation by the November 30, 2012 deadline, and who have a completed Degree Status Report signed by their Advisor and the Director of Students Records will be allowed to march in the May commencement ceremony. Once students have completed all degree requirements, the Office of Student Records will issue a transcript and award letter.
Students will receive a diploma that will be dated the August, December or May following the actual completion of degree requirements. Diplomas are ordered only three times per year.
Commencement Participation Policy
Students lacking no more than six semester hours of credit toward completion of all degree requirements OR who have a single internship or practicum worth no more than fifteen credit hours (which are graded on a pass/fail basis) may participate in the commencement ceremony in May. Either shortfall should be completed by the following December.
Students meeting this policy and planning to complete degree requirements in August 2013 or December 2013 must submit an Application for Graduation by the November 30, 2012 deadline.
