Soon after launching Employer U in 2015, it became apparent that adequate training space was needed if our workforce development program was going to flourish. After several months of planning, a generous $50,000 donation from MMG, a $10,000 grant from the Maine Community Foundation, and human and financial contributions from the university, UMPI opened its new, state-of-the-art space devoted to professional training in September 2016.
Named the “MMG Center for Professional Development”, the new facility features some of the most impressive video conferencing and interactive technology available today. In addition to having the latest technology, the MMG Center has furniture and equipment that can be easily reconfigured to promote multiple instructional methods and room layouts. The 1000-square-foot space, which can currently accommodate up to 25 people, is conveniently located on the first floor of Kelley Commons (adjacent to the Campus Center) with easy access through an exterior entrance and nearby parking. The center has a kitchen, restrooms, and ample storage making it a self-contained space even for all-day functions.
