The Maine Farmland Trust, along with University of Maine Cooperative Extension, University of Maine at Presque Isle, Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District, and Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District, will be holding a Soil Health Workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 8:45 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room in UMPI’s Campus Center. The day begins with a plenary session with Brendon Rockey of Rockey Farms in Center, Co. and throughout the day presenters will speak on topics such as the science and profitability of soil health; potato farmer perspectives on the changing climate and soil health; and reduced tillage, rotations, and cover crops. The day will conclude with a panel of farmers who will share their experiences with soil health practices, as well as the barriers to farmers using these practices.
