There was a gathering of UMPI Owls in Canada’s Northwest Territories [NWT] last fall. Gordon Porter, C.M., O.N.B., who served on the UMPI Education Faculty from 1999 to 2006 and continues to work as a consultant and speaker in Canada and internationally, has been working with the Ministry of Education in Canada’s NWT. And it turns out, many teachers there come from Atlantic Canada and Ontario. In October, Porter served as the speaker at a full day meeting of principals from all the schools in the NWT–there are 49 of them–and three of the principals were at UMPI when Porter was teaching there. Porter said the three recalled their time at UMPI fondly.
