UMPI hosts Maine Archaeological Society fall meeting

Professional and avocational archaeologists from Maine and farther afield will gather at the University of Maine at Presque Isle next month when it hosts the Fall 2011 meeting of the Maine Archaeological Society [MAS] on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. The meeting will be held in the UMPI Campus Center from 12:45 to 8 p.m.

UMPI’s Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Dr. David Hart

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host Dr. David Hart, Director of the Senator George J. Mitchell Center and the Research Leader for Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative, as the next speaker in its 2011-2012 University Distinguished Lecturer Series.

Dr. Hart will speak at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Campus Center about Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative: Linking Knowledge with Action to Create a Brighter Economic, Social and Environmental Future.

UMPI celebrates Homecoming 2011

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is hosting another jam-packed Homecoming celebration from Friday, Sept. 23 to Sunday, Sept. 25, offering everything from a reunion concert by Too Far North and a new triathlon race to socials, athletic events, alumni games and the annual Hall of Fame dinner. Alums are slated to return to campus from across the country and as far away as Australia for this year’s Homecoming weekend.

Mark Anderson to give talk on sustainability at UMPI

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will welcome Mark Anderson of the University of Maine for a talk on sustainability on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the GIS Lab (Folsom 201). The talk is being hosted by UMPI’s Environmental Studies and Sustainability Program and the UMPI EPSCoR grant project.

SAGE kicks off fall class offerings

A University of Maine at Presque Isle program that serves local residents over 50 and believes in “learning for life” will host its fall kick-off event at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 in the Campus Center.

Seniors Achieving Greater Education [SAGE] has worked for more than a decade to bring short courses in arts, sciences, and specialty areas to the region’s senior community. SAGE is one of 17 senior colleges in the Maine Senior College Network, and one of two senior colleges north of Bangor.
