Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned not one, but three top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2014 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the 50 Best Regional Colleges in the North, among the 15 Top Public Schools in the North, and among the top 5 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt.

UMPI announces Educator, Distinguished Alumni awardees
The University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Alumni Association will honor two alumni with awards of distinction during the Homecoming 2013 activities during the Sept. 12-15 weekend. The annual alumni award presentations will be made during the Homecoming Alumni and Friends Brunch, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. in the President’s House.
UMPI hosts management courses for the fall semester
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will be offering two courses this fall beginning Tuesday, Sept. 24, and Wednesday, Sept. 25, respectively, as part of its American Management Association’s certificate programs. The course registration deadline is Thursday, Sept. 19.
These fall courses, part of a multi-course curriculum leading to Certificates in Management and Human Resources Management, are specifically created to meet the unique needs of working professionals who want to be more effective in their current positions and better prepared for future advancement, according to Keith Madore, campus AMA coordinator.
SAGE kicks off fall class offerings
A University of Maine at Presque Isle program that serves local residents over 50 and believes in “learning for life” will host its fall kick-off event at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 in the Campus Center. For 16 years, Seniors Achieving Greater Education [SAGE] has brought short courses in arts, sciences, and specialty areas to the region’s senior community.
UMPI celebrates Constitution Day with Living History lecture
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will celebrate the 226th birthday of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with a unique “Living History” lecture delivered by Dr. Brent Andersen, an assistant professor of political science (adjunct) at the University.
On Tuesday, September 17, from Noon to 1 p.m., students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to observe Constitution Day by gathering in the University’s Campus Center for the special lecture, which is titled How the States United: From the Declaration of Independence & Revolutionary War to the Constitution of the United States.
UMPI hosts annual community and campus clubs fair
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host its 18th Annual Clubs and Community Fair on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Campus Center Multipurpose Room.
The University kicks off the academic year with this event that allows campus clubs and organizations to promote their groups to the student body and the community. This event also introduces students to the services and products available to them in the community.
UMPI holds Presidential Inauguration Sept. 13
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will mark an important milestone in its history when it hosts the Inauguration of Dr. Linda K. Schott as its Eleventh President on Friday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. in Gentile Hall. Linking Generations Through Teaching and Learning serves as the theme of the event and it will be reflected in several special ways throughout the ceremony. A reception will follow in the Campus Center; refreshments will be served. All campus and community members, as well as those from further afield, are invited to attend and take part in the celebration.
UMPI, Wintergreen celebrate success of northern Maine’s first-ever color-filled 5K
With perfect weather, hundreds of participants, and thousands of dollars raised, the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Wintergreen Arts Center are calling their Color Presque Isle 5K event a resounding success. Their fun-filled 5K, which welcomed more than 400 participants and served as a benefit for the Northern Maine Center for the Cultural Arts, raised more than $11,000.
World renowned photographer Joyce Tenneson to serve as DLS speaker
The University of Maine at Presque Isle is pleased to announce that it will kick off its 2013-2014 University Distinguished Lecturer Series with a talk by world renowned photographer Joyce Tenneson. Presented by Canon USA’s Explorer of Light program, Tenneson will deliver her talk An Intimate Look at the Intimate Portrait on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. Tenneson’s talk is free and the public is invited to be a part of this special evening.
UMPI celebrates Homecoming 2013
The University of Maine at Presque Isle is hosting another jam-packed Homecoming celebration from Thursday, Sept. 12 to Sunday, Sept. 15, offering everything from socials and athletic events to alumni games and the annual Hall of Fame dinner. As a special part of this year’s Homecoming weekend, the Inauguration of UMPI’s Eleventh President, Dr. Linda Schott, will take place.
