2/1/21 – Message from Sarah Coyer and Fred Thomas to campus

Greetings UMPI campus,

Happy first day of February! As you know, this week is the first week of our weekly testing for those who come to campus for class, work, or activities.  I wanted to share a few important details with you all regarding testing so you can feel confident as we get into this new routine:

  • The MOST important thing is to participate in testing if you are required to do so, the day/time that you get tested is less important.  We have asked specific groups to test on specific days, this is to help us (the testers) spread out the testing in a manageable way.  If the day you have been assigned does not work for you, you can come to ANY OTHER DAY/TIME that testing is available.  You do not need to let us know in advance, show up during the open hours…just get your test done when you can!

  • All testing will take place in the MMG room on the first floor of Campus Center near the bookstore.

  • These are the open testing hours:

    • Monday: 9am-3pm and 4pm-7pm

    • Tuesday: 9am-3pm

    • Wednesday: 9am-3pm

    • Thursday: 9am-3pm and 4pm-7pm

    • Friday: 9am-1pm

  • This testing is only for asymptomatic community members. If you need to be tested because you have COVID-19 symptoms you should not come to the MMG.

  • You should not eat, drink, or smoke in the hour before your test.  This will compromise your results.

  • You should plan to bring your phone with you for testing, you will login with an app.  If you do not have a smartphone or other device we do have a few devices available to assist you at the testing site.

  • This week we are using Vault tests, these are the same tests we used throughout the fall semester.  We will be switching to a different system over the next week, we ask that you be patient with us while we find our rhythm.  They are both saliva based tests.

  • We will be provided different colored bracelets to students to wear when they are tested, there will be a different color each week.

  • If there is a snow day or delay for inclement weather testing will be cancelled.  If that occurs on your regular testing day you can come in at any open testing time to complete your test later in the week.

That is all for now, thank you in advance for your help in keeping our community safe!

Best,

Sarah and Fred
