Our campus has so much to offer for those who live, work, and learn here. As you pursue your course of study at UMPI and prepare for your future, you’ll also make friends, tackle new challenges, and try new things. UMPI offers you enriching and supporting opportunities that extend your education beyond the classroom. Living on campus, as well as participating in athletics and intramurals, student employment, student activities, and clubs and organizations are important college life programs that create experiences for leadership, service, and personal growth.
UMPI also provides other physical resources–like our health and wellness center Gentile Hall (which features a pool, fitness center, elevated track and climbing wall) and our very own disc golf course–as well as institutional learning opportunities, available at places like our Center for Innovative Learning. Want UMPI Gear? Make sure you explore the Campus Store. Need help on your class assignments? Be sure to visit our Tutoring Center.
Student Affairs exists to meet your needs and interests, so we rely on your input and participation to make it a success. We encourage you to visit any member of the Student Affairs staff and share your ideas and concerns. Years from now, we want you to remember your experiences at UMPI as some of the best times of your life. So go on, explore your options!

Things to Do
From student clubs and organizations to Athletics to outdoor adventure, our campus is buzzing with activity. We host more than 20 different student clubs and organizations, which means if you have a passion–be it academic, social, athletic or service-oriented–there’s definitely a group out there for you. Check in with the Student Activities Office, located in the Campus Center or at 207-768-9582, to get more information.
Our campus offices work collaboratively to provide a full schedule of cultural events during the academic year, from comedians and a capella groups to Distinguished Lecturers and theater performances. Keep an eye out in our News section for details, or check out the giant calendar the Student Activities Office maintains in the Campus Center.
If you love adventure, there are plenty of opportunities to experience a variety of outdoor activities in numerous pristine settings throughout the year. Closer to home, if you want to give Disc Golf a try, check out our Talon Trails Disc Golf Course.
Or try your hand at newspaper writing or radio DJing through our University Times student newspaper and our WUPI 92.1FM student radio station (office/station is located in Pullen Hall).
And for those who love sports, check out our Athletics and Intramural offerings. Whether you want to be at the center of the action, or cheer on our teams, we want you to show your Owl Pride!
Places to Go
There’s plenty to explore at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Our Campus Center is a major gathering point for our students–it not only houses the Owl’s Nest, which is a great spot for games and impromptu open mic sessions (and there’s late night food on offer), but also includes our Club Room, Campus Store, mailroom, and UCU banking branch on the first floor and our Kelley Commons dining hall (with brand new Mongolian grill!), Alumni Room, and ballroom/multi-purpose room on the second floor.
Just down the walkway is our Center for Innovative Learning, which houses our library, Learning Commons (Tutoring Center and Writing Center), and IT services. The facility includes lots of dynamic study spaces and you’ll love the serpentine couch, wobbly stools and tables you can draw on with dry erase markers.
Next up is Wieden Hall–the gymnasium inside serves as the Home of the Owls where many of our athletic events take place and the auditorium across the hall serves as an important cultural venue, hosting comedians, music acts, and theater troupes during the academic year.
A short walk gets you to Gentile Hall, our wellness facility that features a multi-purpose gymnasium, elevated track, fitness center, pool and climbing wall. Many community events set up their home base at Gentile Hall, so you may get to join in on a 5K or get a bird’s-eye view of Presque Isle’s annual Light Parade from here.
At the north end of campus is Pullen-Folsom Hall, our major classroom building. The facility also features all sorts of labs (science labs, MLT Lab, PTA Lab, Nursing simulation lab, and, of course, computer labs), the student radio station, a student art gallery, and the Commuter lounge).
There’s plenty more to see. We didn’t even mention the tennis courts, bike path, disc golf course, Athletic fields, and art installations across campus. Our recommendation is that you come for a campus visit and experience all the places you’ll go yourself!
Your UMPI Journey
Orientation
It all starts with Orientation. If you’re new to UMPI (whether you’re a first-year student or transfer) and taking in-person classes, you’ll take part in our orientation activities before the start of the academic year. Learn about campus, access resources, and have tons of fun along the way.
Convocation
Becoming a member of the UMPI community is a big deal. At Convocation each fall, faculty, staff, and current students gather to celebrate our incoming freshman class in style.
Graduation
A fitting end to your UMPI experience, Commencement exercises take place in May and are celebrated with a big helping of pomp and circumstance.
