Dear UMPI Community,
It is with sadness that I share the loss of a longtime member of our campus community. E. Clifton Boudman, Professor Emeritus of Art, passed away on Nov. 19, 2025, at the age of 83.
Clif, as he was known to many, began his time at UMPI in 1966 and was responsible for instituting our Fine Art program in 1968. He would go on to become one of UMPI’s longest serving faculty members. His Annual European Fine Art Study Tours–which he ran for four decades–were always a much anticipated affair, and many a student’s life was changed through the experience. In addition to his course and program work, his mentorship of countless students, and his own work as an artist, he and his wife Judith found time to operate the Rum Rapids Inn in Washburn, on the banks of the Aroostook River. More recently, Clif served as an artist in residence at the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle, sharing his love of art through gallery shows and even bringing pieces from his own art collection to display in the library.
As was evident from the alumni shows that have been held in the last year at UMPI and the Turner Memorial Library, Clif has had an impact on so many students and artists during his storied career.
Our thoughts are with Clif’s family during this difficult time. Arrangements and obituary information will be shared with campus once it becomes available.
