Student Learning Outcomes

The UMPI Social Work program uses a variety of assessments to continually improve the program. Programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education assess and report student learning outcomes. Students are assessed on their mastery of social work competencies which are competencies all social workers are expected to master during their social work education and training. Each program sets a target for each competency, and scores at or above the target are considered by the program as mastery of the competency.

The nine social work competencies are:

  1. Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior
  2. Advance human rights and social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.
  3. Engage anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in practice.
  4. Engage in practice-informed research and research-informed practice.
  5. Engage in policy practice.
  6. Engage with individuals, families, groups, organization, and communities.
  7. Assess individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
  8. Intervene with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
  9. Evaluate practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
