3/20/2020 – Message from President Rice to campus

Please click here for a special video message from Naomi and I.

Dear UMPI Students,

I write to inform you of some important academic options that are in effect for the remainder of this semester as well as additional communication options so that you can immediately request help in regards to your learning environment, support services, and any other needs that you might have.

First of all, however, I write in hopes that you and your families, loved ones, and friends are well, and that you are as comfortable and comforted as possible.

Spring semester resumes officially on Wednesday, March 25

You’ve already received messaging from your professional advisors about temporary academic options.  This includes the ability to withdraw from any course through May 17 as well as to switch to a Pass/Fail grading option for any course through May 17.  Any “Pass” grade you receive this semester will allow you to take the next course in a sequence . Please contact your professional advisor should you have any questions about these options.

In regards to any help you might need, please note that our UMPI COVID-19 FAQ page now includes a “Need Help” button that you can select at any time.  If you prefer, you can call our newly-established UMPI Info Line at (207) 768-9532. This will help us to ensure that you receive the help you need.

As a new function to our support services, we are especially pleased that you can now make your own appointments for either a tutoring or Writing Center session (including uploading drafts of papers), as either an online appointment or a live Zoom-style meeting with a tutor.  Just go to https://umpi.mywconline.com/schedule.php .  You can also contact Dr. Deborah Hodgkins for further information (deborah.hodgkins@maine.edu).

Now, more than ever, ensuring that we are supporting your learning environment to the best of our abilities and providing the services that you need, is essential for our success as a community of teachers and learners.  We all need to pay attention, listen, respond to, and support one another. At UMPI, we are dedicated to doing just that. Please let me know what I can do to help you succeed.

Most Sincerely,

Ray
