From “response to intervention” strategies and the Maine State Lottery to antibiotic resistant genes and women redefining culture, students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle will showcase their academic research, scholarly work and community service on Wednesday, April 20, during University Day. The theme of this year’s event is Disrupting the Status Quo.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Studio 923 Art Club will be hosting its very first Trash to Fashion Show on Earth Day, April 22, 2016. The show, to be held at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium in Wieden Hall, will feature the fashion design skills of students and community members in a runway show. All creations are made exclusively from recycled materials. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this event; there is a suggested $5 ticket price.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Pullen Art Gallery will host a special exhibition in April featuring the work of photography students. The Student Photography Exhibition will be on display from April 1 to 22, with an opening reception on Friday, April 1 from 6-7:30 p.m. during the April First Friday Art Walk. All are invited to attend this free event. Light refreshments will be available.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will celebrate the publication of adjunct faculty member Anthony Dolan Scott’s new poetry collection with a reading and book signing with the poet on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. The public is invited to attend this special event, which will include a reception featuring light refreshments, and wine available through a cash bar.
“America’s top Irish folk group” Makem & Spain pays a visit to the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a night of music in precise, three-part harmonies on Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. Admission is free but donations for future cultural arts programming will be accepted at the door.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle was recently recognized by the Breathe Easy Coalition’s Maine Tobacco-Free College Network with a Gold Award as part of its Gold Star Standards of Excellence Recognition Program. The program celebrates the efforts of Maine institutions of higher education to address tobacco use on their campuses. This is the third time the University has received a Gold Award.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle is pleased to announce the next speaker in its 2015-2016 Distinguished Lecturer Series—Dr. Matthew Kutz, an award-winning author, professor, Fulbright Scholar, and leadership development expert. Dr. Kutz, who will speak on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center, will offer his presentation, Abandoning the Status Quo and Embracing Chaos and Uncertainty as a New Fundamental Life Skill. This talk is free and the public is invited to be a part of this special evening.
