The Aroostook County Safety Directors Association held their 9th Annual Aroostook County Safety Symposium on April 2 and 3 at UMPI. The symposium was broken into sessions over a 2-day period. One session offered was a 3-hour safety seminar to prepare for safe excavation and learn about potential safety hazards of utility damage, “Dig Safe” laws and rules, call center notification, best practices, utility marking standards, what to do if a line is damaged, and the enforcement process. Other sessions included OSHA 1910 – 10 hour General Industry Standards, Transportation Safety Compliance, Work Zone Safety, Walking/Working Surfaces, Emergency Planning, Operation Lifesaver, Lifting/Rigging Safety Awareness, Combustible Dust – Are You Compliant?, Realizing the Benefits of Contemporary Machine Safety Solutions, Fall Protection, Shop Safety, Work Health Service Overview & Return to Work Exams, Overhead Electrical Hazards, NFPA 70 E – Electrical Standard, and Surviving an Active Shooter.
