UMPI celebrated its fifth year of participation in the St. Apollonia Pediatric Dentistry’s annual Festival of Trees this December. This beloved community event, now in its sixth year, saw nearly 70 beautifully decorated trees—many with an impressive array of themed items surrounding them—on display in Northern Maine Community College’s gym from Dec. 6 to 8.
The Festival of Trees serves as the major fundraiser for the dental clinic and helps in its mission to provide dental services, especially to those who can’t afford dental insurance. Last year, the event raised approximately $100,000. Funds raised during this year’s event will help in establishing a sixth dental operatory space at the clinic.
UMPI was pleased to once again be a part of this special holiday event for such a great cause. The theme of UMPI’s entry this year was “A Cozy Holiday,” complete with rocking chairs, an electric fireplace with owl stockings for the mantle, a rug, tree, cozy blankets, books, hot cocoa and UMPI mugs, a gingerbread house kit, and baked goods.
During a special ceremony before the event began, UMPI received a 5-year sponsorship ribbon and plaque. Representing UMPI at the ceremony were Sharon Roix, Nancy Nichols, Laurie Boucher, Danielle Pelkey, and Debbie Roark.
