Memoirists from across the state have been taking part in the Maine Senior College Network’s first online course–a memoir course taught by Elizabeth Peavey, a Portland-based writer. Using Zoom, an online conferencing tool, seniors from Presque Isle to Auburn are taking part in live discussions and sharing work. Nancy Roe, a member of Seniors Achieving Greater Education, is one of the students taking the course. On the screen, she says, the group looks a bit reminiscent of the TV program Hollywood Squares, and everyone can hear and see everyone else in the class during discussions. Roe said she’s enjoyed using the new technology and it’s given her a chance to meet MSCN members from all over Maine. “It has the potential of being able to reach seniors who cannot even attend SAGE classes but have the ability to use the Internet,” she said.
