The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Employer U program will host a six-session professional development series titled “Communicating in the Modern Workplace: Speak. Write. Succeed.” that will begin on Tuesday, March 31 and continue through Thursday, April 16.

This series will show participants how to communicate more clearly and confidently in professional settings and cover a wide range of situations, including written communications, workplace presentations, and difficult conversations.

“Clear, confident communication is essential for professional success,” said Kim Jones, UMPI Associate Professor of Business and instructor for this professional development series. “In direct response to employer requests and feedback from Employer U alumni, this interactive series will help participants strengthen their ability to speak clearly, write effectively, deliver engaging presentations, and navigate challenging workplace conversations professionally.”

Employer U is UMPI’s professional development program through which individuals from any industry and at all levels of employment gain the tools and knowledge needed for career success. Employer U offers a diverse array of programs, from routine skill building workshops to micro-credential attainment and nationally recognized certifications.

“Communicating in the Modern Workplace: Speak. Write. Succeed.” will include six sessions that will cover the following topics and include related activities: Foundations of Workplace Communication, Speaking with Clarity and Confidence, Writing for Busy People, Powerful Presentations, Communication in Challenging Situations, and Communicating for Professional Success. Participants who complete all six sessions will receive a Certificate of Completion and 12 contact hours of professional development.

The series will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-5 p.m., starting on Tuesday, March 31, through a hyflex format, meaning that all sessions will be held simultaneously in-person at UMPI’s MMG Center for Professional Development and online via Zoom. Registration costs are $299 per person or $249 per person for the group rate (3 people or more from the same organization). There are 24 in-person spots and 20 Zoom spots available for this interactive, discussion-based, applied learning opportunity. Spots are available on a first come, first served basis.
