The University of Maine at Presque Isle honored several employees for their years of service during the Employee Recognition event on May 9. This year’s event recognized employees who marked a milestone anniversary in 2023. Eighteen employees were recognized for their combined 240 years of service to the University.
University of Maine at Presque Isle hosts 114th Commencement
Two hundred and sixty-three students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday, May 6, during the University’s 2023 Commencement Exercises—the University’s 114th Commencement ceremony.
Reed Gallery features 2023 Fine Art Senior Thesis Exhibition
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery presents the 2023 Fine Art Senior Thesis Exhibition, featuring the work of Aimee Beltran and Jordyn Gardner. The show opened on Friday, April 28 and will be displayed through May 26.
Two to be honored at UMPI’s 114th Commencement
University of Maine at Presque Isle President Ray Rice has announced that Sam W. Collins, President of S.W. Collins and past chair of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, will deliver the commencement address. In addition, Collins and Mary Barton Akeley Smith—philanthropist and advocate for community development in the region—will receive Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degrees during the University’s 114th Commencement Ceremony.
UMPI celebrates 20th annual University Day
Defying Expectations is the theme of the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s 20th annual University Day, taking place on Wednesday, April 12, and students will be showcasing that theme in presentations on everything from digital storytelling using artificial intelligence to the art and science of early childhood education the opioid epidemic and drug policy in Maine.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle presents Dr. Laymon Hicks, author and motivational speaker, as the next speaker in its 2022-2023 Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center.
UMPI student attends Disney College Program
Christie Oneill never thought the phrase ‘I’m going to Disney World’ would be a part of her college education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. But, this year, the 20-year-old English major from Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, became the first UMPI students in several years to participate in the Disney College Program.
Krzysztof Czyzewski serves as next LDLS speaker
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present Krzysztof Czyzewski, founder of the Polish-based Borderland Foundation of Arts, Cultures, and Nations, as the next speaker in its 2022-2023 Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Wednesday, March 29 at 5 p.m. via Zoom. During his talk, The Borderland As a Xenopolis: From Idea To Practice, Czyzewski will discuss the importance of cultural interconnections, common ground, and civic engagement.
UMPI releases Dean’s list for Fall 2022
Five hundred and fourteen students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester, according to Dr. Ray Rice, UMPI President and Provost.
Reed Gallery presents Langlais’ World
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery presents Langlais’ World, from March 3 to April 21, 2023. The exhibition will feature a selection from its large collection of original artworks by Maine native and internationally renowned artist Bernard Langlais, including sculptures, paintings, drawings, constructions, and sketchbooks. Some of these works will be seen for the first time since they were gifted to UMPI by the Kohler Foundation.
