Homecoming 2019 Schedule

Welcome to UMPI Homecoming 2019!

We are pleased to provide this early look at the event schedule as we make preparations to welcome you to campus this September 26th – 29th.  Please note, that information on this schedule may change as we refine our plans. You can jump ahead to Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Thursday, September 26

1:30 pm to 4:00 pm Voices in the North Country | Campus Center: MPR

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s writer’s symposium, Voices in the North Country, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 for a day of activities focused around the theme Writing What You Know. The symposium will include a reading with local students and published writers, a panel discussion and Q&A with Maine writers, and a Distinguished Lecture in the evening by Dr. Ted Van Alst, UMPI alumnus, Associate Professor and Director of Indigenous Nations Studies at Portland State University, and author of the story collection Sacred Smokes. Voices in the North Country has taken place three times before: in 1994, 1996, and 2000. Join us for a spaghetti supper to support the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. Price TBA

7:00 pm to 8:30 pm DLS Speaker | Campus Center: MPR

Friday, September 27

Zillman Family Greenhouse Dedication | Greenhouse

Stay tuned for more information as we officially dedicate UMPI’s new greenhouse!

8:30 am to 4:15 pm  Adapted PE Workshop | Gentile Hall

The workshop is designed to review current programs and provide practical evidenced-based examples in Adapted Physical Education. The workshop format is designed to engage the participants on practical strategies for implementation, leading to systematic changes in the provision of physical education services provided to children with disabilities.

By the end of this workshop, participants will have:
-Reviewed the SHAPE America PE Standards and K-12 Grade Level Outcomes
-Reviewed the guidelines for the development and implementation of a quality APE program
-Reviewed motor/fitness assessment strategies and sample assessment reports
-Applied strategies that address self-regulatory behavior through the sensory integration and processing approach

Join us for a leisurely walk along the UMPI pathway.

1:00 pm Lawn Games | Location TBA.

Take a break and ease into homecoming weekend with some friendly competition.

3:00 pm to 4:30 pm Paint & Punch | Campus Center

Paint a UMPI themed painting while enjoying some light refreshments. The cost of admission includes all materials and your painting is yours to keep. Registration information TBA.

5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Women’s Volleyball vs Unity | Wieden Gym

Support our women’s volleyball team as they take on Unity in a double-header!

4:30 pm to 6:30 pm Oktoberfest & Pints with Professors | Campus Center

Enjoy an Oktoberfest themed meal while visiting with UMPI faculty and staff.  Price TBA.

7:00 pm Star City Syndicate | Wieden Auditorium

The amazing Star City Syndicate will be rocking Wieden for a benefit concert to refurbish the auditorium! Admission is free and donations are gladly accepted as we work to revitalize this campus landmark.

10:00 pm to 1:00 am Student Dance | Campus Center: MPR

Dance the night away following the Star City Syndicate concert! More details TBA.

Saturday, September 28

9:00 am to 12:00 pm Admissions Open House | Campus Center: MPR

Considering joining the UMPI family?  There is no better time to visit the UMPI campus than during homecoming weekend.  Join our admissions staff and guests from around campus as they introduce you to the life of a UMPI Owl and provide advice, tips, and tricks to help you make the right college choice for you. 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Snowy Owl Marketplace | Gentile Hall

Explore the new Snowy Owl Marketplace, a gathering of crafters, artisans, student organizations, and more.  Vendor information will be posted soon.  If you’d like us to let you know when registration is open, please send us a note.

10:00 am to 2:00 pm Car Show | Gentile Hall or North Parking, TBA

Check out the cars on display or enter your own! Registration information TBA.

12:00 pm Men’s Soccer NVM-Lyndon | Park Field

Support our Owls at a North Atlantic Conference game and enjoy some NCAA Div. III soccer!  Seating is available in the new bleachers or bring a lawn chair.

2:30 pm Women’s Soccer NVM-Lyndon | Park Field

Support our Owls at a North Atlantic Conference game and enjoy some NCAA Div. III soccer!  Seating is available in the new bleachers or bring a lawn chair.

4:30 pm Alumni & Friends Social | Campus Center

Join fellow UMPI alumni and friends for a pre-dinner a social hour. Dedication of the Wings painting will also take place at this time. Cash bar; no ticket required.

5:30 pm Alumni & Friends Blue & Gold Evening | Campus Center: MPR

Dinner and program hosted by the UMPI Alumni Association.  Program to include President Rice’s State of the University Address, recognizing the honor classes, and bestowing the alumni association awards. Ticketed dinner event; cash bar.  RSVP/Ticket information TBA.

8:10 pm Fireworks | Park Field

A UMPI Homecoming favorite! Watch the sky above campus come alive.

8:30 pm to 10:00 pm Bonfire & S’mores | Location TBA

Enjoy a bonfire and s’mores to end your day here on campus.
