YourPace Admissions Requirements
Admissions Requirements and Guidelines for Undergraduate Programs
- Students must be 20 years of age at the time of application.
- High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., HiSet, GED)
- Minimum cumulative college of GPA 1.75 from most recently attended institution
- Submission of all official transcripts: Transcripts are only considered official if they are sent directly to UMPI from the granting institution or their electronic ordering service. Student-submitted transcripts are not accepted.
- Students who do not have any college credits must submit the following:
- Provide high school transcript, high school equivalency test (HiSet), or GED
Instructions for international students:
- Submit Transcripts for Credential Evaluations
- At UMPI, we require all international applicants to submit a credential evaluation report for high school and university transcripts because we do not do evaluations in-house. (There are a few exceptions; please see below for details.) There is a fee for this process that can range from around $85 to over $275 (if you have transfer credit). This evaluation report will translate your grades into US equivalencies.
- If you are planning on using another provider, they must be endorsed by NACES or AICE.
- What evaluation should I order?
- Course-by-course evaluation: students with college/university work completed outside of the United States.
- Course-by-course evaluation: students with a high school transcript AND advanced level work; advanced level work could include A-levels, CXC’s, CAPE exams, etc.
- Document-by-document evaluation: students with only a high school transcript.
English Language Proficiency
All courses in the YourPace Program are delivered in English, and students are required to submit all coursework, both written and oral assignments, in English.
If you are an international student or a student living in the United States whose first language is not English, you are required to provide proof of English language proficiency. Please review the information below for details on approved exams and potential waiver options.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Admissions Office considers all applicants under a holistic review process based on the documents required for the application process. English proficiency is required as part of the application process.
Please ensure that your official test scores are provided before the required document deadline for the session that you have applied for. Test scores must be taken within the past two years.
Only the following English proficiency tests and scores will be considered for the application process:
- TOEFL score of 79 Internet-based & 550 paper-based
- TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5
- IELTS score of 6.5
- Pearson Test of English score of 53
- Duolingo English Test score of 105
- Cambridge C1 Advanced
Please use 3008 as the institutional code for the official scores.
Potential English proficiency test waivers within the application process:
The only guaranteed method of meeting the English proficiency requirement is by passing an English proficiency test.
An English proficiency test waiver may be considered for the application process if one of the following options is met:
- Your high school transcript clearly states that English is the language of instruction for all subjects.
- Must have earned one of the following from an institution located within the U.S., Canada, England, Australia, or New Zealand, where English is the primary language of instruction and assessment:
- Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Graduate degree from an accredited institution.
- 60 undergraduate or 12 graduate semester credits from an accredited institution.
- English is your first or primary language, and you reside in one of the following countries. Verification in the form of a government-issued identification card will be required.
Note: If you are using WES and are from the Caribbean, CXC results need to be sent directly to WES from CXC (cxc.org). China Credentials Verification (CSSD) evaluations cannot be considered. The length of time an evaluation will take varies so please plan accordingly.
Additional guidelines for international applicants may be found here.
