EXPECT incredible value

UMPI works hard to make the cost of education really, really affordable for all students. Read on for more detail about the ways you could save depending on what type of student you are.

Free For Four Award

All first-time, full-time Pell-eligible Maine residents (first-year and transfer) receive FREE tuition and fees (saving more than $9,400 per year).*

For Maine Families Award

Other eligible Maine residents may receive significant reductions in tuition and fees ($4,600 or more in financial aid grants and awards).**

For Other Students

Out-of-State and International students pay just $14,861 in tuition and fees.

Merit Awards

UMPI’s Merit Awards apply to in-state, out-of-state, Canadian, and International students. Renewable each year, they are awarded based on academic criteria and no additional application is required.

$5,000 Merit Awards are available for traditional undergraduates coming to UMPI directly from high school (awarded to eligible Fall applicants only). Students must score at least 1100 on the SAT between Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math or at least a Composite Score of 25 on the ACT with a minimum high school GPA of 3.3; OR an overall GPA of 3.7. Canadian and International students must provide official transcripts for all 4 years of high school in order to be considered for this award.

$2,000 Merit Awards are available for Transfer students coming directly from another institution (awarded to eligible Fall and Spring applicants). Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 from current institution and 15 transferable credit hours to UMPI.

Other Financial Matters

A limited number of awards are available for first time, full-time college students from Maine who are Pell Grant eligible based on the submission of a complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Priority will be given to students who apply for Financial Aid by March 31st.  If applying after March 31st, please contact the UMPI Admissions Office for details and availability.

Pell-eligible transfer students from Maine who transfer to UMPI will also be eligible for the FREE for Four program.  Priority will be given to students who apply for Financial Aid by March 31st.

Selected recipients will receive a combination of both grant and scholarship funds to cover the annual cost of standard tuition and fees.  Recipients are required to attend as full time students and successfully complete 12 credit hours per semester.

Maine students, who are not Pell-eligible and meet the same requirements will receive an annual tuition discount package which will reduce their net tuition to $4,800 per year (30 credits plus standard fees).
